There must have been something like a 15 year gap between my stopping by the other day and the previous visit. That would be due to this being on a very infrequent route for me and time of day on the rare occasions when I'm in the area. But it is still significant, because 15 years is an eternity in a restaurant's survival, and speaks volumes just in and of itself. (And they must have been here considerably longer than 15 years.) I think Yesenia's must be closely related to another restaurant of identical name in Rancho Bernardo -- an area that I get to far more often -- due to the name, same apparent menu, and other things in common. Service was good and quick. What I have ordered at both Yesenia's is the Carne Asada Fries, which they make better than anywhere else I have sampled them. (And this review applies to *both* Yesenia's, for that dish.) The key here is getting the fries crispy, so that they resist becoming soggy from the guac and sour cream etc. toppings for as long as possible. It's surprising how many other Mexican eateries have not seemed to grasp this critical factor. Fries that are too soon soggy just ruin this ! All the ingredients are very good, including the beef. The portion is large enough that I can never finish it, and that's probably a good thing. Such a wonderful dish, but not one I think I should order with any regularity: I'm sure my cardiologist would be appalled if I did ! I must try their rolled tacos, and several other menu items.

Second time coming here, I really should come more often since I had a great carnitas plate last time. This time I got the #5 combo, beef taco/cheese enchilada and rice and beans. Taco was nice and crunchy and moist favorable shredded beef. Stand out was the cheese enchilada, best I've had. Full of melted cheese inside and on top with lettuce, tomatoes and a cream sauce. Mexican rice was also great with corn and peas and great flavor. You also get complimentary freshly made tortilla chips with a full salsa bar. I recommend all Mexican food lovers to try this place.

I walked into a small but clean casual Mexican Food Restaurant ,and ordered Chicken Fajitas, and a Enchilada Chicken Taco combo to go. I ordered a modelo beer while I waited for the food then as I sat down at the table the young man working cashier, and in the kitchen had a basket of chips waiting for me at the table. Everytime I come here he is so friendly. The food was great as well.

First time trying this spot. Friendly service, great salsa bar. Carne asada burrito was delicious. Reminiscent of 80's San Diego Asada burritos. Rolled tacos were the stringy shredded beef and great. Cheese quesadilla was the best our ten year old said he has had, and I thought it excellent as well Overall a great spot

The carne asada fries were loaded and the fries were delish! The surf and turf burrito was delicious too with big, plump shrimp. It was a big saucier than I wanted though but the amount of guac was great! I wish their salsa bar was labeled with spicy levels because there are a bunch of sauces but don't know what's super spicy until you try it! The avocado creamy salsa is spicier than it looks! I like they have spicy carrots that aren't overly spicy! It takes a bit of time for the food to be ready but we enjoy coming!

Let's start with this. I ate the whole thing. Walked across the busy street to seek out some local Mexican fair. Liked what I saw from this place so I went for it. It wasn't very busy and the only person working there was doing it all . He wasn't super fluid within English, but good enough to make a suggestion on what I should try. I went with his suggestion... the #8. The #8 is part of some 20 or so combination plates. This combo included beef, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, three tortillas, beans, and rice. It also included a few chips. It did not include salsa. A small head scratcher. Everything tasted good. There was ample amount of everything to fill you right up. The meal comes out fast and hot.

Staff was direct and courteous. I absolutely destroyed this (also post work hunger) but it was delicious! Meat was well seasoned and fries were fried well! Small and cute place with multiples doubles seating inside and some tables outside on their shaded patio area.

I took a load to the landfill with my youngest son. While we were there my son said, "you know what? I didn't even eat today. " So I asked him what he felt like eating and he replied, "Mexican!" I knew exactly what he was craving- Yesenia's! We went to the Kearny Mesa location and my son ordered a carne asada fries plate. We went next door to go look around at the sporting goods store. When we came back his food was ready and we took it to go. The shop is neat, tidy, and cute. One girl was cooking while the other handled the register. Great job! My son didn't talk at all for the next 15 mins, just grunts of happiness and joy. Thanks again! Sorry, I forgot to take pictures..

Sit down wise it's a good option. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Right next door to Daiso so parking can be iffy. I had a carne asada plate. Food was good. Service friendly.
